SCHLEPPING
…  mid-move laughing, mostly
Sunday Apr. 27, 2014

Deliberate two-month-long move?

Best way.

Ever.

Some glitches, purchases not fitting in cars, meal-parts in separate places – add levity.

Current place disarray, with large items in want of their truck-day, smaller ones await their fate – by car, hatchback, trashed or left by trash bins with note attached:  ‘free to good home’.

Everything must go, somewhere.

Everything packed, loaded or ditched.

Two rules:

1. least needed, least wanted, least practical can’t go
2. essentials, sentimental treasures, must move … to a point (then see rule1)

Each car-load choice predicated on ‘what is still here vs. what is already moved?’

I couldn’t make toast this morning (toaster already moved). Breakfast was a tomato sandwich, but without essential pepper (pepper mill already moved) and ice-cream. Eating ice-cream with a fork was fun. I have a bowl, and the carton of course, but spoons have been moved. Today I’ll move rest of the food. Meals will now occur in that place with no table or chairs, and restaurants.

Moving is part spring-cleaning, part carbon-footprint reduction, part donations to charity, donations left by trash bins with notes attached - ‘free to a good home'.

Moving, amalgamating, some of my dad’s things, my things, some new things. My office taking shape. Cupboards filled, fridge organized, nearly everything kitchen transported, put away . . .

Yesterday went – happily so – right off it rails in terms of weekend plans.

Tasks planned for yesterday will be done today, maybe (see rule 1)

I’ll rest some of my weariness in a hot bath(here or there) or nap on soft couch (still here).

Possibly both.

I’ll read.

And write.

Did I move the heating pad?

Not sure.

P.S.: how can I describe Saturday except to say thank you to SB, helper and hatchback owner? Thanks too, to Walmart for stocking cheap bungie cords and packing tape required because the cargo didn’t fit. Thanks to those helpful young guys at IKEA for their help.
