ISOLATION 2.0
Tuesday, Apr. 14, 2020
I’ve never spent long periods in isolation.
I’ve been on vacation alone – but always with the freedom to drive around, dine in restaurants, walk beaches, shop in stores, and mingle with locals and fellow tourists. That’s often quiet, and a bit lonely, but hardly deserved a descriptor like ‘isolated.’ Email and phone calls add to ‘connection’ no matter how remotely we travel.
Someone asked a medical expert the other day ‘when will life return to normal?’, which produced a profound response, wondering ‘if life will return to normal.’
It will return to ‘something new and different.’
Don’t hold your breath; normal is not coming back anytime soon.
Imagine someone sailing solo across an ocean, or camping/trekking in a faraway place without an internet connection or cellphone coverage – now that is isolation.
Isolation has taken on new meaning.
