THE BEST OF DAYS, SIMPLER WAYS
Wednesday, April 20, 2022
I often chat with people my age who are retired, on the cusp of retiring, or just tired …
The more I have those conversations, the more I want the vigour of youth to return because I realize the best days are still ahead, way ahead, and more than anything, I recognize the magic of this phase of life is the absence of fear, risk, or the wrath of a boss – the freedom of choice has always been with us, but vulnerability, when we are young, makes us feel inflexible.
Are my best days behind me or ahead of me?
How about yours?
I know my resume, and there is much I’m proud of – projects done, milestones accomplished, goals reached, and relationships established. But I’m not done. I’m just getting started.
It seems the most demanding of days – whether workload, stress level, or the demands of others – unfold with surprises. And lately, those curves and twists in the undulating road seem more complicated than many others, but the stress of navigating them seems simpler than ever. Part of that is having experience (or is it aging?), but another part is recognizing that each bump in the roads of the past makes each new challenge simpler somehow.
