DUCK AND COVER

At our age …
Someone offered me that short retort to something I said the other day. That comment and my reply, I won’t discuss – because that’s private and not appropriate for discussion here. What I reacted to with amazement was the ‘At our age …’ preface, as if I should agree with someone’s point of view simply because we have a similar number of miles on our odometers.
What’s that got to do with anything?
If my ideas align with someone who is 8, or 80, or 30, or 102 – I’d never start a comment “at our age,” so why do people ‘of a certain age’ try to lump themselves/ourselves together?
Is it just so they can say something completely idiotic and then cover with ‘at our age’ …?
Reader feedback:
Like you Easter holiday to me is just another day. I recognize the significance of the day but beyond that it doesn't matter to me either. At least this year we can still use the excuse about not having to attend Family get-togethers, and just spend a weekend sleeping and catching up on all the new books I bought to read. Our thoughts are with you as you remember your close friend Barry, MJ, Calgary, AB
