Most arguments are ignored by most of us because we believe what we believe. And whether we believe we can change anything, everything or nothing – we are likely right.
Was the writing on the wall visible?
Is it ever?
Not just now, but historically …
Nero fiddled, Rome burned. The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. Racism. Neo-nazism. Historical references, ideology nuances, hatred. We know these labels, and we think we know the history. Or do we?
History – perhaps even more today in the digital age, or better labeled the post-facts age of citizen journalism (sic) and political propaganda on a scale never seen before, media warfare resembling bad reality-TV – we are in for another footnote in the Trump presidency which makes the Korea (it ain’t over) dustup fall to the second page because race scabs are being picked again as those who would Make America White Again (still alive, they aren’t relics of the 60’s) affiliated/aligned with Trump interests have Republicans running for political over and Democrats salivating with desire to capitalize but without a presumptive leader to rally around.
And I’m wondering when Democracy, as a concept for running any society will give its head a shake and ask: what defines Democracy? And who defines it? Does it mean what it used to mean – and can it survive?
And once you wrap your brain around that issue – how would you define the body politic today?
Chaos is not a concept, and revisionist history and geo-political war games with Trump’s possession of nuclear launch codes gives little comfort to anyone. I looked up anarchy. It’s not that bad. Not yet.
Is America, democracy and liberty as we know them in danger?
I think the writing might be on the wall …
Did somebody paint it already – just with invisible paint?
