CANADIAN VISITS AMERICANA

I love heat and history – lots of both here. It’s no ‘Ottawa’, in size terms, but feeling similar – visiting capital cities filled with national historical treasures. I’ve not gone far (haven’t left my continent or language) yet I’m foreigner in this place. Americans make pilgrimage to their capital, monuments and institutions – strung along boulevards of bureaucracy, embassy and edifice – where the world meets America and America chest-thumps, this city designed to intimidate visitors. It does.
So far, much of this place is impressive, and I’ve not seen much yet. I have only a general gist of my whereabouts and destinations (though I unexpectedly explored downtown DC yesterday when I took a wrong bridge – Washington Monument and Kennedy Center now ticked off my must-see list).
‘First few days’ vacation mode – body/sleep cycle adjust, there is no pause-button.

morning walk: 27C/81F, clear and hot – high humidity (I’m understanding the invention of ice cream and swimming pools better than before … I walked along the edge of Fort Myer which is across the road from my hotel (where Orville Wright flew first heavier than air machine) and got my bearing a bit for later explorations. Note to self – next time a hotel boasts free-wifi, ask more questions and verify bandwidth …
