ALL STUFFED

Tuesday Aug. 14, 2018

Good morning …

Your coffee hasn’t cooled yet and already you are dealing with important small stuff. It matters. By-pass small stuff at your peril. Start at the beginning of every day. Get out of bed – the most important small stuff of all. Make your bed – more important small stuff. Take care of every little thing that matters and you will have a much better day than if you don’t. If anyone complains, tell them you are taking care of stuff – and they should too! If they persist, get them off your plate/radar screen and tell them to get stuffed.

We all want that head start, a fast start, something that aids our trajectory – like rocket fuel in a race car, implies we’ll get where we are going faster. Faster than anything. Faster than anyone else. Getting traction on new things, on new relationships, get us excited. Sometimes, excited too soon. Sometimes that great ride takes us to great places, sometimes to the ditch – but which is which?

And whether or not we are in high-gear or slow-mode, life hurls a surprise at us – most often ‘it hits someone else’ and sometimes it hits closer to home – that thing, that something that hits someone has unfathomable sudden impossible to understand consequences.

Inspiration and its cousin desperation don’t get together often …

They are too busy. When mired in troubles we focus on problems. And we focus on solutions. Often too much on how it feels, it batters us. Beats us down, making it hard to look forward to our next day with optimism and good cheer.

But in the right measure, inspiration and desperation cause sufficient perspiration – when we are either sweating hard making our dream into reality or we are working our way out of or away from a desperate reality. Either way, we are sweating.

Then somebody says, “Don’t sweat the small stuff”. Poppycock. We need to sweat that stuff of all sizes – stuff never sleeps, never goes away, never ever quits – there is always more stuff. Sweat the small stuff as much as the big stuff, sweat it every day, morning to night, take care of the small stuff and the small stuff will take care of you.

Some people who espouse small-stuff theories tell you not to sweat it, and that everything is small stuff. Don’t believe that – because small stuff IS more important than everything else, more than ever, and it won’t stop.
