LOOKING TO THE FUTURE

I’m reminded of a line from a song in the musical ‘Oklahoma’ – when someone was singing about everything being up to date in Kansas City, “They’ve gone about as far as you can go” …
That was amusing, but as wrong then as it is untrue today. Despite our inclinations as humans to be combative with each other, to war, to compete, and to denigrate those we see as less than us – and to see ourselves because (insert name of country here _________) is somehow superior to others – because it’s just not so.
We are creatures of, and creations of, the times in which we live.
It’s always been that way – for recent ancestors and ancient ones too – as it will be for yet unborn descendants in their time later this century, and the next.
Millenniums from now when life and living will have advanced so much further than we can ever imagine, everyone will be a creature of their time.
I wish I could see that.
