A GREAT READ

I love a great read …
I love reading and writing, and speaking.
And I love listening to great speeches.
The last two years, more than most things, I miss my TM.
TM – not transcendental meditation – but Toastmasters.
I miss the performing, and I’ve not been competing – I miss that too.
Online meetings in the COVID era have challenged us to speak to a camera rather than presenting to an audience from a stage. And not meeting in person takes away the interpersonal connections, so many of us need/want. Yes, we want to have speaking opportunities and the opportunity to be evaluated and receive feedback from peers who want to help us get better – the value in building confidence and a toolkit of skills is celebrated the world over.
Yesterday the annual International Speech competition drew to a close – the best of the best this year is, in my view, one of the best combinations of speech content/message/impact and performance that I’ve seen in a long time – and she did it virtually, speaking into a camera that carried her message to a live-streaming audience around the world. Kudos to Verity Price for her winning speech: A Great Read – link here for 7-minutes of pure gold!
p.s. Kudos too to coach/mentor – and a Toastmaster friend to many of us in Calgary, a Californian and World Champion Lance Miller who coached Verity on her path to victory. I have several friends who’ve been coached by Lance – and I’ve attended his seminars. On one of his trips to Calgary, I had the pleasure of introducing Lance and white-hatting him while I administered his cowboy oath.

Okay. Maybe decide if you are writing a novel or a book of Musings; you have lots of ideas so you could do either or both. Then write it, or them, in English and make it, or them, appeal to women if you want to storm the market. If you want to appeal to non -readers maybe put cartoons into the book(s) here and there. Do NOT stop your daily columns though ‘cause we like them!!!, AN, Calgary, AB
