SHORTEST DAY LONGEST NIGHT
Thursday Dec. 21, 2017
Sleep fast, or sleep lots – it doesn’t matter much, you can’t change the date.
So, what can you change?
Morning. Fresh start. Blank page. White page.
Fresh start, blank page. Times seven, can you imagine such a week?
One such day is daunting. Could we handle two? Or three?
Who does have a fresh start, a blank page, every day?
Children do.
Animals too I think. I can’t imagine a critter waking up to stare at yesterday’s unfinished work. They just start each day with a need for survival, for feeding, for staying safe and warm. Children do the same but with the protective/watchful parents looking out for them. Baby critters do too.
But once we move along in life, nobody is watching over us. We are capable to meeting our own needs – so why can’t we start our days as a fresh start on a blank page?
Most of us, through job or business or sense of obligation – have ‘things to do’ everyday which have the look and feel of obligation. Most aren’t. They are choices or promises we’ve made or implied to have made – but they aren’t obligations. First obligation is to our self – to keeping ourselves alive, safe and well. Without that we are hardly capable of doing anything else for anyone else.
Fresh start – first day of winter today.
Put that first. Not winter. The fresh start!
Walk in the snow if you have snow.
Walk on the beach if you have beach.
p.s.: snow for the last two days – just to be sure, it really is the first day of winter, looks like it, feels like it
