The competitive playing field of business, of life and relationships of every kind would suggest that on ‘any given day’ just about anything can happen. The delusion that we can create/map-out or plan our life, our situations, our connections – to make them fit and conform to expectations is naiive. We see it in others all the time when elections go a different way than everyone predicted, when a fumble or stumble turns the direction of the big game at the last minute – and it swings the outcome.
My expectations have been dashed enough times I’m torn between second-guessing my own judgment and the notion that expectations have any real value at all.
But more importantly – my expectations/wishes are better served when I am just ‘present’ with my ears open and my mind open too – what might be most important to know, to understand and to act on are often not on anyone’s agenda … they just flow out of the process. If we aren’t paying attention we miss them completely.
