FIRST DAY
Friday Dec. 21, 2018
Another winter begins, 3 shopping days to Christmas, is this just another Friday or is it something more?
For that matter, is any particular day something more or special or unique?
I’m not meaning ‘milestone dates’ on a calendar, but rather asking ‘what makes this day special’?
Most days aren’t milestones in any of our lives – but this day is enormously important for others; birthdays, deaths, marriages, founding of businesses, meeting new people, forging partnerships. Contracts, topping off a building or demolishing one, moving up or moving on. And ending things. Retreating. Turning around. Deciding. Deciding not to decide. Those dates are more significant, aren’t they, than the start or end of a season?
The first day of winter doesn’t matter much to a farmer here – but when you realize the southern hemisphere is embracing the first day of spring for famers there, this day have a different meaning for them.
Whether your day is special or not, it is for someone.
Whether your day is memorable or horrid, for someone it is indelible etched in horrification and cannot be purged from their brain.
What kind of day are you going to make today?
Someone isn’t having a great day, but if you give them some of your time and energy, it might get better. Someone is alone, lonely and afraid – but if you give them some time and attention, they might feel better. Maybe this day will be a celebration day for someone because you made it special for them.
Go ahead, give it a try.
