Officials everywhere, frightened of their health care system/hospitals being overwhelmed by too many sick people get overwhelmed regardless of illness severity. For those awaiting surgeries or treatments, waiting a little longer for sicker folks to slide ahead in the queue seemed simple enough through earlier waves of this pandemic, but now things are sadly skewed against those with pressing non-COVID needs.
Everybody knows that.
Another wave, perhaps higher, more potent, or less severe.
Nobody knows …
National governments everywhere and provinces across Canada – reacting swiftly despite scant consensus or consistency – fingers crossed, hoping that mostly unvaccinated people will get sickest, those who get sick won’t be as sick this time, and those who need hospital beds will be less likely to need an ICU/ventilator.
