HEADS OR TAILS
Friday, February 19, 2021 - daily column #6673
When we are young and full of pee and vinegar, we believe everything we tell ourselves – because we feel so vibrant, confident, and infallible. Sure, we stumble, but we see life as a very long race we’ve just begun. I was like that.
The rearview mirror delivers clearer images with each passing milestone in our lives, I think – because we can more easily see things for what we were rather than how we want to remember them, or more accurately, how we saw things way back when.
These days the runway doesn’t seem as long, though it is coming into sharper focus every day and month that passes. I know what to do better than ever, but some days end with feeling like the stuffing has been knocked out of me. Part of that is a message to go slower. Part of it is a message to bite off less, move a little slower and be more thoughtful.
Strength is the flip side of the weakness coin.
And pleasure is the flip side of the pain coin …
Reader feedback:
It is so true. We all miss many opportunities to be there for one another. Without human contact in the past year there are more people now than ever who suffer in different ways. Let’s hope it gets better soon. - MJ, Calgary, AB
Well said, MK. I’m desperately trying to move my ‘best before date’ down the beach a ways … so far, I’m managing to stay out of the wind … keep hitting sand traps though. Stay safe, NB, Calgary, AB … p.s. I had two people send me a complementary note on your publication of our interview … my thanks.
