STARS OF PAGE AND SCREAM
Saturday Feb. 20, 2016
One.
Word.
Another. Soon, more. More. Move, edit, chop – reorganize, edit, chop more …
Stream. Consciousness. Every idea craves protection, insulation – defenses against bombardment of every competing thought from every obscure moment in my life that floods in, like a div-bombing bird grasping its fish prey from the stream.
That tug. So near this keyboard where dancing fingers sway. Swayed. Flirted. At least. At last. Sparks drift creatively near page and screen – perhaps to ignite magic. Or leave a cinder behind as remnant – a Kilroy was here – piece of graffiti. My head is full. Weekend play beckons but the next two weekends planned away suggest it is work, not ‘reserved creative time’ that will mark my calendar. But the urge to ditch. Delay. Obfuscate. Trick my mind – to simply make it a blank page weekend for writing …
Ideas, like birds circling over rotting carcass, about to …
Land. Eat. Scribble.
Original thought – what starts that?
Inspiration. Bird pecking dirt outside. Behind bushes. Something read in morning papers, online news – these are triggers only. Writers write. On their best days, unlocking – setting free feeling, point of view, energy and passion – for something. For anything. Then to write it. Here.
Ideas. Some sizzle. Most fizzle, between creation and moments later. How can an idea’s half-life be? Puff of energy. Global warming?
Perhaps success. More likely not. Mind wanders, wonders, wanders back to starting point without much to show for that journey aside from what was ruled out. Busy head, collision space – awaiting synergistic combinations of ideas and adventure, practical ways to begin, effective ways to continue and some form of closure later on.

p.s. – a riddle for American friends. Q. What do you find behind bushes? A. Money.

morning walk: -6C/39F, overcast, bracing north breeze reminded me what season it still is (snow flurries in the forecast) and nobody crossed our path – Gusta enjoyed a longer than usual Saturday stroll and I’m feeling very energetic …
