RECOMMENDING LIFE
Saturday, February 20, 2021 - daily column #6674
Life is hard sometimes, easy at others – and rarely predictable.
Still, I recommend it. We are living through a time we can describe as difficult or stressful, or we can call it a time of great opportunity. Any way you look at it, though, it’s living our life. The time is now, and this stretch of difficulty is part of our journey. We are challenged more than we want, but we can handle it like any other challenge in life. Ignoring is not avoiding, denying is not avoiding, being angry is not avoiding. We learn to refocus our energies – to exchange ignoring for embracing and learning new things, flipping denial into testifying for what is real and turning anger and frustration into action energy.
The big gambles we make rarely pay off, and the small steps we take sometimes bloom like a magic garden. Sometimes it’s a phone call we didn’t expect, a suggestion out of the blue, or something we come across that stops us in our tracks. I had a week with some surprise calls, a suggestion I didn’t expect, and some unexpected results – and expected ones too.
Some recommendations you might enjoy:
I’m enjoying the acting and clever writing – I’m binge-watching Crave, a 5-season drama series called Billions. Loving it! And, a great magazine piece, These Precious Days, by Ann Patchett, it’s a 40-minute rabbit-hole read you’ll enjoy for the story and for the writing even more. After you read it, check out: Sooki Raphael.
