Fills the mind with imagination.

Breaks the silence.

Only someone allergic to nature, beauty and tranquility would complain here.

Where is here? Are you here, or there? No need to visit mountains for recharging to be ‘here’. Nice diversion – to be present. Be clear and calm.  No reason to go, no reason to stay – just  pleasure being. Being still. Still. Being.

Morning. Roaring blaze – call for more firewood.

Mark Kolke

written / published from Emerald Lake Lodge, Field, BC - few things in life that I’ve found that feel this good – mountains, silence, wood burning fireplace, gourmet dining, firm mattress – combination produces fabulous sleep and appreciation for a weekend of disconnection … seared scallops, rack of lamb and white chocolate cheesecake for dinner last night

morning walk:  1C/33F, a few people out walking – squawking bird warns squawking bird – then silence again, read some hiking trail directional signs and returned; dawn didn’t break as much as it cracked open to overcast replacing yesterday’s blue, still. Calm. Still. Constantly. Awe inspiring … and that big hot tub beckons, but breakfast in the lodge pulls harder …

Reader feedback:

WE ALL NEED HOPE

Brilliant writing sir.  I heard Romeo A. Dallaire speak at an event some years ago and it stuck with me he said  “Hope is the oxygen for humanity, without it we perish”… Kindest Regards, SP, Calgary, AB
