PLACE BIGGEST BETS ON YOU

Monday Jan. 11, 2016

Life looks different to you, different to me, from where we sit, where we live. How we think. How we survive. And when we thrive. We worry about the same things, just in different decades of our lives. We fight the same foes, right the same wrongs, steering into and out of trouble. Choppy seas. Different days, different ways. How different is it, really, when we get past our anatomy, wardrobe and economic status – set aside our creature comforts, our self-indulgences, how different are we?

Might as well have a great time trying magnificently interesting things, things that need doing which aren’t getting done by anyone. Not just for fun. For reasons. Your reasons. Nobody else gets to say, nobody else gets to know what you want, or why you want it.

Probability of failure?

High.

For everyone.

We live, thrive, have failures and die. Degrees of magnitude for our highest-rises and lowest-slumming – but we all go through these things. Sometimes bravely, sometimes as cowards, afraid of how bad things might be and even more afraid of surpassing our best moves.

Fear of heights – ones we might rise too, scarier still. Get over it, get past it, grit our teeth – and we’ll be blown away but what we can accomplish with our humble little lives and ordinary bodies. Not by it being easy, but by how empowering it will be. There will always be someone bigger, better and more powerful. There will always be someone more in tune with the times, someone #trending …

Why not?

We have everything to lose. In the end, we lose it all, leave it all …

morning walk:  -6C/22F, stars lit our way – as did a 6:00AM headlight stream already clogging McLeod Trail; steady breeze softening more snow, softening slush in the street – seems Ms. Mucky-paws Gusta still loves cold-wet on her belly
