PAINT THE BLANK PAGE
Saturday, January 15, 2022

Everyone needs a passion.

I found mine. Or maybe it found me. Somedays, when I second-guess myself, it might be a work-ethic habit combo about a craft rather than a naturally occurring talent. It’s OK – it doesn’t matter if there is a big prize inside me. It’s more like painting a picture vs. painting a fence. But painting fences can be great too …

I wish that on everyone. Not that they become writer-wanna-whatever – but I’ve been observing more lately, that many people don’t have that gut-level love affair with something, and I think that’s a sad thing.

Just for a moment, can you imagine if your life – those circumstances you cannot control – interrupted your passion?

Each day seems like that; some days short, most days long – and in the end, I can’t wait to get back to this keyboard. Writing every day has become, for me, like breathing – it gives me breath and energy, it allows a quiet voice to be loud.

Writing every day is essential to my being, far beyond what might matter to readers. It goes further.

It’s the freedom to paint with words – the world, or some streets or back lanes at least – or maybe just pages …

Reader feedback:

SORRY TO SEE YOU GO
Boy. This resonates.  If any column should be awarded the “Enlighten business owners Laser Award” - this is it. I am going to print it off and slip it under the door of some businesses where their surly, and or  disinterested staff are losing them business and referrals.    A reality show on this would be useful. Yup. That pushed my button, JR, Calgary, AB

Well said Mark! Something so effortless for people to do but as I mature ( getting older ) I'm more sensitive at experiencing that type of behavior. My mind says start looking for options. When you do come into contact with people who demonstrate a warmth throughout this interaction a real joy is felt inside. Sure would be nice to have more of that!, JJ, Calgary, AB
