IF A MOTH HAD A BRAIN
Thursday Jan. 26, 2017
Moths are drawn to bright lights, attracted in ways they could never explain.
Tiny moth brains, no moth-speak capability we comprehend.
Anyway, if that moth was a primate – had a big brain, would that moth act like you or me?
Or as it always has, just another moth drawn to the flame?
If that moth had a big brain it might wonder why it is so drawn to light, to excitement – wondering what could be so strong and compelling that nothing would stand in the way of its pursuit of the light?
We know this because we have big brains – that light might at the end of a train tunnel, that pursuit of the great ‘unknown’ is more than unknown, it is where fear and trepidation live.
On the other hand – that bright light we are drawn to might be a place of great adventure, stupendous challenges and creativity beyond our wildest dreams.
Moth is drawn to the possibility of something it instinctively and recklessly pursues. Nothing gets in the way of the moth. Yes, it’s demise of course, but imagine how exciting that is for that moth.
We are all moths. With brains. We know the bright lights we are drawn to – and sometimes they are white hot pits that will consume and destroy our bodies, our minds, our futures. But hey, if we are all going to be reduced to rubble in the end, why not chase a white heat and light source now and then. The worst that can happen is that we don’t get out alive. That’s life, isn’t it?
And imagine, if moths had night-vision goggles …
