BE WELL LARRY
Thursday Jan. 28, 2016
I’m walking.
Talking.
Situation normal. No specimen of health – to be sure there are many who take better care of their health, of their bodies, than I. While I credit better quality food, smaller servings and gym visits as ‘progress’, I’ve still a long way to go.
I think about health, fitness and longevity many times daily – little choice. Every news orifice – paper, online, TV – filled with advertising, tips and news, running alongside photos of food, junk food, fast food, snack food and everything to make even the gruffest cardiologists squirm …
Sometimes, we are lucky.
A dead-line, replaced by a life-line.
Someone has a heart attack, doesn’t die – gets a chance to inspect our health care system up close and personal. A friend, grey-haired contemporary, found his way into hospital, awaiting open-heart surgery. Yes, no clowning around, seriously stunningly scary.
What spurs us to change?
What spurs me?
You?
It isn’t flashing numbers on my bathroom scale, suggestions from my doctor or that myriad of health advice and advertising bombarding me.
Isn’t headlines.
It’s those deadlines, of obituaries … they really get to me some days.
I’m heading to the florist today, then the hospital. Walking through the front door, each time I visit such palaces of healing – so glad I’m not being wheeled in the side door on a gurney.
First, have some things in my cupboard and fridge to throw away …
Getting well, or getting healthier, is something we choose – sooner or later.
Later is not a sane option.
Soon isn’t a commitment either.
Friends, readers, get well now.
Be well now.
Do, there is no try …

morning walk: 1C/34F, another big-melt day ahead; partly cloudy – slippery when wet covers ice, cleaning Gusta’s drenched coat and mucky paw are small price to pay for fresh air and legs/ankles/feet in good repair …

Your thoughts on this subject were great, and while I don't believe in "magic pills", I wish I did. Then I wish for a big segment of the human family to take your info all squished into a pill, take it and truly ABSORB it!!! thanks much, JLB Canmore, AB
