Self.

Starter.

Start a bonfire, or light just one candle, flickering in a breeze …?

A year from now most of us will find life unchanged – and we’ll be a year older, lamenting how little we’ve moved our needle.

And then another year, another year – you get the picture. Trees grow that way too. Getting older, more rings in their trunk, they never go anywhere. Yes, they develop strong roots, synergistic relationships with their surroundings but they don’t get to travel very far or transform themselves until someone fires up a chain saw …

Great day, a great way, to set our compass for weeks and months ahead – light a fire under our own behind, be a self-starting blaze, or maybe a rocket …

First ‘real’ work day of this year, today, let our rocket-ride begin.

morning walk:  -5C/23F, cloudy, soft snow, traffic humming early as city resumes its workday pace, Gusta somehow managed to come in with wet-mucky paws which makes me question the weather office’s temps; great refreshing breeze, perfect for candles, perfect for rockets …

Reader feedback:

ABSOLUTELY HARD

Interesting article - thank you. For the most part I agree that aiming for the best is great but think there are also times when settling for very good or good is ok.  Sometimes teams or individuals can get so caught up in shooting for the best or perfection and end up not accomplishing or delivering anything. I looked over the list of interviews you've done over the past year - very impressive and I look forward to reading more of them. Interestingly I know/have worked with 5 or 6 of them.  Small world!, RL, Calgary, AB
