Can we go a day without our devices? Can we go an hour without our cellphone, can we go a half-day without email?
If we went away for a year – completely disconnected from all news formats and connections other than by letter writing, we would be writing letters again …
It wasn’t that long ago we, and everyone else, functioned without those marvelous tools. Now we all have them. We suffer FOMO (fear of missing out) on this collective merry-go-round. We don’t want to be left watching from the sidelines, we need/want to be aboard that great playground roundabout all the time.
What is most significant, I believe, is that our society (I mean people all ages) is substituting electronic immediacy for the intimate nature of personal connection – surely we cannot survive and thrive without both.
