JOLT-DU-JOUR
Monday July 1, 2019
While going through my morning routine the other day, an email arrived – neither odd or inappropriate about it. Just a routing notification, advising me of a transactional step having been met by a client. One step closer to completion. What was notable about that moment was observing that something came with, a little jolt of energy.
I know my creaky middle-aged body quite well. I also knew that step was coming – just one the concluding steps – always routine, always necessary and nothing I had any angst about.
Still, when that email telling me to tick another box on a list there was a little surge of energy. Some expert might talk to me about dopamine or adrenalin. I’m sure there is a simple medical school explanation …
But what got me more than that – at that moment, and maybe it’s because I’ve had this on my mind lately, is that it would be great (wouldn’t it just?) if some wizkid (am I young-thinking enough to be a wizkid?) could develop a ‘positive message app’ that could send out a daily (and/or on demand) e-jolt that would lift me. Lift you. Lift others. I wonder if a simulated jolt would have the same impact as a real jolt? For me, this morning’s message was ‘this deal is one step closer to completion’ and the jolt was felt. Going down this APP path, could I send someone (or subscribe them) a Jolt-du-jour?
A simple, one sentence Jolt. Hmm …
I wonder, if that sentence would be reduced to 140 characters, or some succinct quantity of message and purpose, just enough to Jolt me …

To all my fellow Canadians, Happy Canada Day!
To all my non-Canadian readers, happy International Joke Day, Second Half of the Year Day, Zip Code Day, Postal Worker Day, International Reggae Day, Creative Ice Cream Flavor Day and Gingersnap Day
In Canada, beer and hot dogs, picnics and patriotism are the flavour of the day. We don’t toot our horn loudly or pound the table hard, but we do it all proudly …
Also, just in case you want to know, July is Ice Cream Month. It’s also Horseradish Month, so you just never know what things will get together.
