GETTING CLEAR ABOUT WHERE WE START

Tuesday, July 12, 2022

Every road, and every journey, has a beginning, a middle, and an end.

But roads are roads. Available paths are just that, paths and available.

Journeys are different because they don’t start with the road.

They start with some sort of plan, or they are random.

Whatever the starting motivation, however detailed our planning, the path taken most often leads somewhere else – to a blind alley or a mountain top.

We’ve all heard variations on the theme, or mantra, of ‘begin with the end in mind’, but what if we shift?

What if we start with the fundamentals and foundation of the beginning in mind?

In other words, begin at the beginning, and build the foundation before building the structure.

Everyone loves a beautiful piece of architecture, something tall and proud, an elegant roofline, or a stunning profile against the sunset. Still, without a deep and stalwart foundation, those are simply dreamy thoughts of things that never get built and never get an opportunity to lean, slump or crumble.
