SEEKING BALANCE

People are funny.
I wrote a piece recently about truth.
In that piece I touched on religion.
I chuckled at one response I received – at first praising my writing and explain and appreciating of my variety of themes, but then admonishing me not to write about religion.
Those comments were thoughtful and interesting but when the writer went on at some length to advise me not to write on the subject of religion again because I would get too many responses (unclear why that would be a problem for that person). Each time I re-read that comment I laughed a little more.
I’m never sure if my view is shared by anyone else, it struck me as odd that someone responding to openness about ideas and viewpoints would request that I avoid a subject. Especially one she had some very salient comments about …
They have so many different and unexpected views.
Why would I want to avoid or silence anyone?
The suggestion that I avoid a subject to avoid crackpots and zealots is absurd. Crackpots and zealots have lots to say – and if we listen to everyone but, we’ll hear everyone but – that is not balance, which is not open-mindedness at all …
