SPRING CLEANING

Spring cleaning – I know, I’m a few months late.
Summer days, when the pace of days seems a little slower, this seemed like a good time to take care of, to finally resolve, this niggling problem.
Purging some things, clearing out the backlog – getting back to ‘in-box zero’ was difficult because I don’t have just one. I have six. Different email addresses, different purposes – and file folders too, so keeping track of things starts off feeling easy, but it’s those ‘left behind items’ - they pile up.
At the time, the in-box seems a good enough place to store them; they are not urgent enough to deal with each day, yet important enough to not lose track of them, no other place to save or store them.
I’ve put a task/reminder on my electronic calendar – each day, to take down the total by five. I little task-master on my calendar every day. I’m not done, but I have several zeros now and the rest within reach.
I’ve observed an invigorating by-product of this process.
I’m less likely to leave something there untouched from one day to the next – I deal with it, delete it, file it, forward it, advance it in some way if I can. So far, I’m resisting the temptation to let things pile up again.
I’ve solved it for now.
I hope this lasts …
Now, back to that closet and a junk drawer that needs attention too.
