FOUNDATION OF THINGS

When we look back on things that transformed lives, transactions, and relationships, we know – despite all the big-project planning, in the end, the most potent and impactful things came from little things. A comment, some wise advice, someone clear in their principles, an experience or memory that made us believe in something, in someone, and within ourselves – those are the tiny bits that moved mountains for us. All the other resume-building experience and education were helpful, but it was taking a chance on a change – those little things that made the most powerful of differences. Ask anyone you admire for their accomplishments and their lived-life, and you’ll find this common thread.
From chance to change. What a difference one little letter makes, to change c to g, can make.
Shifting our mindset for just a moment is like downhill skiing. Early learning stages from clumsy snowplow to stem Christie, to effortless esses in the snow as we learn, the entire body moves most effortlessly; not from toe-gripping, knees together leaning to and fro. Nor is it in only the hips, shoulders or head.
It starts at the other end. Eyes shift, head turns, and shoulders follow. Shoulders turn, and the body follows, hips and knees bend, and ankles and toes execute the turn. And back, and back, and back. It’s in what their eyes shift focus toward something else.
Little changes, from chances to changes.
Walk down any street or beach, any summer day, and you can move your life and spirit that way – not with your feet, but with your eyes. Any time, any place, we change even more, with our ayes. Say aye more, a subtle change from e to a, eh?
From chance to change, or seeing aye to eye, our daily focus can be narrow or broad – but hard to do simultaneously and still be in the same body and the same mindset.
Our body, our body of work, like a heavy truck hurtling down a hill – hang on tight, grip the wheel, hard to shift direction or to see any other approach to see any other options. On the other hand, stand on a high spot in the hot breeze of a summer day, look everywhere the eyes can see, and you can imagine what can be.
It doesn’t just start with the end in mind. Like building something, a great design, a fully developed plan is essential – but nothing more important than building on top of a solid foundation.
If we don’t already have one, it’s never too late to put one under us …
Go ahead, take a chance on making changes.
