OPTIMISM

Some days we just get by. Some days something extraordinary begins. How can we tell one from the other? Can we know then, right then, that a day of importance occurred, or was it just another day?
Will today be much different than yesterday?
If it is, how will you know?
I’ve been trying to be more ‘in the moment’ observant – catch magic as it is going by. To grab our handful of magic, we have to ‘not miss’ opportunities to grab some. I want a handful, don’t want to miss grabbing, don’t want to miss trying and don’t want to grasp something imaginary. But that’s just it, is it not? We want what we imagine. Every time we reach out to grab two more handfuls of life we risk grabbing only air, or finding what we grabbed wasn’t what we thought it was.
Life isn’t baseball, but has some similarities – mix of individual skills, teamwork – need some friends to play with – to help us. Won’t have much of a game by ourselves.
Doesn’t mean we have to reply to every email, return every call or act on every whim – if we did, we’d go nuts with frenzy and never accomplish much. But, as baseball batter knows, if let every pitch go by we might get walked sometimes, but we’ll never get a hit.
We need to take some swings – try to hit some tough ones out of the park.
Create something. Anything. Need not be art, edifice or complex organization. Might be just a conversation. C’mon, anyone can start one. Who knows, some days we knock it out of the park.

morning walk with Gusta: 15C/58F, pleasant breezy day – Gusta did her business and the neighbourhood was not on my mind at all; my head was in a far away place digging around for meaning … and then it was over, and now I have to dash off to a meeting filled day …
