COULD BE A STRETCH

Stand up.

Big stretch.

Toward those toes. One side. Then stretch the other. Stretching is important before work outs, before runs – before everything. Everybody knows that, knows value of being limber, flexible and loose if we want performance.

Does what works for body also work for minds?

Stand, sit, lay down – just stretch. Wrap your mind around that corner, around an idea, or person …

When listening, in empathizing, in understanding, in helping, do we stretch?

We dismiss people far more quickly than we should.

Ideas? Even faster.

There is a tendency, I am convinced, to deflect and avoid ideas and people who do not come to us on a platter – all dressed and served in the way we expect, in the fashion we are open to – are rejected so swiftly they shouldn’t have bothered coming.
