WHEN WE LEAST EXPECT IT OPPORTUNITY SHOWS UP
Wednesday, July 7, 2021
Opportunity is everywhere.
We miss most opportunities, and we know that reaching out is often not very difficult.
We can ask a question and accept the help that flows.
We can put up our hands when someone asks for help.
We can test an idea by trying it out or saying it out loud – and the marketplace will quickly tell us whether that was a good idea, a bad idea, or one that needs more work.
Or we might miss the meeting or conference call altogether – the opportunity will fall through the crack in the floor over there and never be seen again or land in someone else’s lap.
Too often, we give up too readily, give up too soon – or worse yet, plod along doing the same old things with the notion we are doing something right or well or the best they can be done because that’s easier than asking for feedback, easier than asking for help, easier than asking for a hand …
I had a great reminder of this yesterday – someone on a zoom call mentioned a strange requirement for a client with a unique need, and he needed help.
I put up my hand.
By day’s end, there were several conversations, a few emails, and after one phone call this morning, a new assignment will have been landed. A new colleague to work with, a new client to serve, and the fun is just beginning.
