GOOD GRIEF
Tuesday July 9, 2019
When I’m having trouble starting a piece I often go Googling for inspiring quotations; I went searching for quotes on loss. Then I searched quotes on losing.
I found mountains of each. Ones about loss were human, grief filled and without ego. The ones on losing were full of ego and all about some form of game, sport or contest.
I looked for similarities and found few.
What was most stark were quotes about loss – all about love, while quotes on losing were all about something else.
I think, when we think about winning or losing – at work or play, we would do well to measure our emotions against what really matters in life …
But loss of someone close is a two-part thing; we grieve sadness for someone who is gone and we grieve loss of our expectations of what we needed to say but never did, we grieve the future things that will never happen now. No thoughts to wins or losses, just the sadness of the times we never had and sweet memories of when we did.
