INSIDE JOB
Sunday June 11, 2017
I like storms.
Don’t get me wrong – I love calm early mornings by a still lake or walking an ocean beach early in the morning or late at night. I like sunny days at every time of year, especially when autumn paints everything, when spring showers nurture fresh growth …
Thinking about that storm a few nights ago – short, windy, lots of tree debris – but mostly remembering the experience of just watching it, listening to it and for a short while standing in it as I collected blown-over chairs on my patio …
I love stormy weather. In winter, few things are as magical as looking out a window at swirling weather – when wind and snow combine with darkness and light, when the noise of the wind is muffled by the softness of a snow blanket.
I love stormy weather in the summer – wind and wet, thunder and lightning, noise not muffled at all, ground gets wet. Faces too.
I like storms when I watch them from close by – but safely indoors or in-car. Storms are weather in turmoil – which is normal for weather. Turmoil in one form or another is normal for most of us – and when it is, it’s an inside job.
