EARNING OUR RETURN ON INVESTMENT
Tuesday, June 22, 2021
Yesterday was National Indigenous Peoples Day 2021. The day before, Sunday, the first day of Summer – so what could today be?
Our ability to control anything is tiny – limited to our actions, reactions, and interactions. Whether it’s our good work, good luck, or good management, we have little control over anything and, at best, minimal influence on outcomes.
So, any day could be our best day.
Any day could be our worst day.
Now, what kind of day are you going to have?
Today could, for anyone of us, be our last day – but that is unlikely.
So what are the other possibilities?
It could be our worst day ever …
Or our best of all!
Any day could be just any old day, but wouldn’t that be a waste – not to try to make it memorable for someone, somehow?
I wonder if it’s that hard?
I know there were so many times in my past when I could have made someone’s day truly special, but I didn’t when I had the chance. That’s not pangs of regret talking – instead, it’s some sadness about not delivering enough gladness when I could have.
The value of any day is not its 24 hours or weather, or whether anyone does or fails to do anything in particular. The takeaway value of our days is equitably connected to what we put into them. If something good happens today, it’s probably related to something good done today or some other day.
There may be variance and imbalance from time to time, but things have a way of working themselves out.
Today, when past deeds pay dividends.
