THIN AIR
Saturday Mar. 21, 2015
Cannot do-over.
Cannot experience same thing, create same feeling, again.
Being fresh.
Each day, to do this day’s work, have this day’s fun, doing today’s creating …
Fresh, unspoiled, unaware what tomorrow holds, or which tendrils attached to remains of yesterday wrap my ankles, holding me back from today’s freedom.
Bereft of inspiration, beginning …
Inspiration found – folded, spindled, mutated, some adventure, just ahead.
Paths, forks, surprise, drama – all part of my story.
Creative juices aren’t juice.
If they were, I’d be out of juice many mornings.
Creativity, like brain synapses – firing spark plugs, thousands of firing every hour.
What makes some creative; so many not?
What makes momentary collisions – idea/inspiration/energy/purpose happen?
Next brain-fart, could be the synapse I most need. Or, just another spark plug. Running my engine. Until it fails to spark interest. Fails to spark on time, in time with the others. There is nothing better for creating anything, than to be uncertain of its outcome. Like shaking hands with an adventure … trusting it will take you somewhere adventurous, like stretching for something knowing that you can stretch. Not knowing if you’ll fall, not knowing if or how you’ll land. Ah …
I wonder, on mornings when I have more time, or feel short on ideas.
I ask creative folks about their process, listen to them – not just writers – how they make their art, their music, their writing as I do, out of thin air.
It’s just air, thinner at high altitude. Like distance being longer the farther you go, or time passing slower the longer you are apart from place, or person, or state of being …

morning walk: -1C/30F (freezing fog says the weatherman .. but why is everything wet?), foggy, drizzly, Gusta found every puddle and came back soggy. Eerie through the night when I got up, fog lifting now, overcast with a possibility of thundershowers later … seems spring is really here.
