URGENT vis-à-vis IMPORTANT, WEIGHT vis-à-vis WAIT
Monday, March 1, 2021- daily column #6683
Something happens overnight.
Every night.
You go to bed with a plan for the day ahead, but something happens overnight.
When morning comes, your brain has reorganized the day – a non-conscious realignment of priorities, triaged the time-sensitive separated from the philosophically most important.
Issues and tasks will be colliding all day, but first thing in the morning is the most difficult. And on days when there hasn’t been an overnight realignment – don’t be surprised if one of the first emails or phone calls of the day doesn’t make you want to go back to sleep for further realignment.
When our non-conscious mind, our 24/7 CUP, rearranges our priorities, the processing is unaffected by the text you just got, or what’s breaking news on CNN, or how someone reacted to what you said in the sales meeting – it takes the emotion motion out of the equation, helps us sort the urgent from the important, giving them weight, or wait, signals.
If still confused, take a nap.
If not, go hard – it’s Monday morning, a new week and a new month.
Reader feedback:
Mark, nice summary of where we are today, and it isn’t rosy. Of course the deaths are the biggest concern, but right now I also worry about those that won’t make it past the mental and economic problems this pandemic has brought (with “help” from our inept and stupid governments who don’t truly know how to lead and didn’t and don’t listen to even their own medical experts). Hopefully the biggest change from COVID is us learning to be much more human with each other. LH, Lethbridge, AB
WORD PERFECT couldn't have been more timely. I have spent years reworking and revising my first novel and although it is far from perfect, my publisher thinks it's worthy of release into the world. I am so excited to tell you that my novel, The Price of Secrets, is scheduled for release April 7th. https://jmaydaze.com/2021/02/27/release-me/ I hope yours will be next!, JM, Seattle, WA
I’ve probably never seen an article with all the perfect words, but you come as close as anyone I read. And I hope women try to impress their lovers too. LH, Lethbridge, AB
