Picnics are great, right? Yes, or no?
Picnics are great.
Everybody loves a picnic.
We tend to associate picnic weather, picnic fun and picnic consequences in similar ways.
See if these words align with your view of a picnic experience ~ summer, afternoon, heat, laughter, games, children, blankets on the grass, campfires, coolers to keep salads and ice cream chilled, burgers, steaks, watermelon, popsicles, scavenger hunts, tug-o-war, water, beach, park, ants, mosquitos, sunburns, Frisbee throwing, dogs, babies, overflowing noise from adjacent picnickers, trash bags. Someone forgot a key essential item such as bottle openers, napkins, ‘all the cutlery items,’ serving spoons, a cake-cutting knife and serving tools – and there is never enough of something, whether that’s glasses, napkins, or paper plates. And who is on the cleanup crew? Did the setup crew have everything they needed, to everyone attending have a good map and had they filled up with gas? And, if you are relying on power for anything, do the picnic spots have plug-ins – the kind that works, and who forgot the extension cords? There are so many things to worry about – picnics are hell, and everybody hates a picnic that goes badly. Undoubtedly, any picnic for 50 or three hundred takes epic-scale planning and ample headache tablets.
Now, when you think about it, small picnics are nice.
Picnics for two, no children, nothing that will melt, a quiet private spot, an umbrella just in case, or candles – just in case, assures the host/planner their guest will be happier than the typical picnic goer ...
Yeah, that’s what we need, everybody likes that kind of picnic.
Picnics are nice.
They don’t always have to be in the summer, in daylight, in good weather – and anything you forget is soon forgotten. Eating with fingers is not frowned up; it’s encouraged.
Beware young singles because having great picnics can lead to having children, which usually means there will be more picnics, especially big ones.
Midwinter is challenging to picnic, but spring is coming – boots are fine, bring something to wipe winter grunge off the table, bring a tablecloth and hot drinks and cold.
Happy Sunday – if you don’t have anything planned, how about a picnic – it’s a walk in the park!
