BEWARE OF RUSSIANS
Tuesday, March 15, 2022

The ides of March …

Today could be a gloomy day – look at Roman history, look at your TV screen, or look at a newspaper – and the world seems slightly mad. NATO can’t help. The U.S. and Canada cannot help. The U.N. looks toothless too. The imposition of sanctions on unjustly wealthy Oligarchs seems futile too.

So what will work?

What will stop Putin?

The world community – working together (if that can be possible) to gridlock the Russian economy seems remotely likely, but that’s a paper war. It may produce results in time, but what about countries and industries reliant on Ukraine’s exports? What about the oil & natural gas needs of Europe?

What will stop Putin?

Russian citizens are revolting in much larger numbers – but they are afraid of Putin’s forces who will either jail them or kill them.

What then?

An all-out war – of Americans v. Russians, a nuclear war?

Someone once said WW IV would be fought with sticks and stones, and as each day passes with reports of courageous Ukrainians pushing back on Putin’s aggression, we must all fear the worst.

This makes me question whether western countries, NATO and non-NATO countries, are doing enough to stall/stop the carnage or whether they have the tools to stop a madman with nuclear weapons.
