HABITUAL REDUX

I’ve been reading a few things lately about programming the non-conscious mind… and to most people, it might seem like variations on the principles of NLP. It is. And it also correlates well with some principles and teachings of some sales training programs I’m familiar with (after a while, many of them seem so similar it isn’t clear who copied whom, but clearly, some emulation/admiration helps validate similar views).

The point of all this is to recognize and re-harness the power of some of these teachings. It’s more than putting a ‘turn off the lights’ sticky note by the door.

It’s about building and reinforcing habits that work, serve our purposes and purging those that don’t. Some of our most profound engrained habits aren’t about goodness, badness, or success or failure – they’re simply habits. And all our practices deserve revisiting; what are they, why do we need them, what will we do without them?

Simple examples are there in everyone’s daily routines. We can do the same old things the same old ways, but if we change our work start-time, travel/breakfast logistics or institute a change of exercise routine, everything bumps into everything, and there isn’t time or space for essential things …
