WHEN SURPRISED DO NOT BE SURPRISED
Saturday Mar. 25, 2017
A surprise about new information or disagreements about decision making – most often, in my experience that it is about people …
There are times when we are clear – absolutely clear about something, yet it turns out we are as wrong-headed about that situation or that person as you could imagine.
Some people trust instincts – I often do, which makes its simple. But when my instincts are asleep or not tuning-in to trouble I blissfully assume the best, hope for the best and work toward ‘best outcomes’ …
Should we judge their words, their actions – or is that not enough? Should we wait until adversity or conflict, or surprise enters the picture? And timing. Too fast, not fast enough, too slow, not slow enough – and does timing or things unfolding ‘in the fullness of time’ really matter? Gut? References? Chance?
What causes us to take a chance on someone?
Not just a ‘tales from the dating world’ experience – I find it in relationships with clients and colleagues all the time. I think I’m getting better at it, at picking better, deciding better and taking-action more swiftly than I used to – less sure it’s a better understanding of others than achieving a better understanding of me.
