SAND BETWEEN PAGES

Saturday, March 27, 2021 - daily column #6710

Resetting our lives, to me, is an exciting prospect.

It might be profoundly important.

Or maybe it’s a delusion.

I’m hardly sure about anything …

If we re-boot computers to clear software quirks, that’s not weird – simply a plug/play, bug-clearing exercise. In some ways, like spring cleaning or rearranging furniture and pictures on a wall.

We re-see things in every way those things in front of us might appear.

From re-charging to refreshing to re-starting – does that work, that repetitive tool restarting, does it make any difference?

Or is it a self-tricking tool to re-start as an energy source but not making tangible differences?

I’m restating the point over and over like I’m stirring ingredients to makes them blend smoothly. The question, deep down, is filled with uncertainty – unsatisfied with contentment but charged up nonetheless.

We don’t have to buy a new car to get revved up, but it helps to take it to the shop for an oil change and a tune-up when it’s feeling sluggish …

I think we are the same regarding our physical and emotional selves too. Diet, exercise, fresh air, and recreation take care of the physical self, but what about the vibrant emotional centre?

Our emotional-self is a driving force – for good, for ill will, or for neutrality.

Where do we want to be?

I know we all want to be on a tropical beach somewhere, and that’s not possible right now – but we can take ourselves to the beach emotionally.

And once we’re there, what can we do?

I see waves, waving palms and legs walking by – young legs, old legs, and doglegs with glimpses of swimmers. I stay put, holding that beach in place with my weight, guardian of towels and books with grains of sand between the pages.

But I snap back – to spring in Calgary, no legs, no beach, no sand.

And books with sandy pages …

Reader feedback:

I GOT SHOT
Well said, Mark. I’ve attached an article you’ll find interesting re: vaccines. I go on the 9th and I could care less which vaccine. Anything to get the politicians out of my hair – while I still have some. Stay safe, NB, Calgary, AB
