The first of May is symbolic for many groups worldwide to welcome spring and celebrate labour – so it is challenging to offer much cheer this year because of what Putin’s Russia is doing in Ukraine. Nothing there deserves celebration except to applaud the grit of Ukrainians refusing to give up in the face of enormous odds and an overwhelmingly powerful enemy, so my thoughts are with courageous citizens and fighters who refuse to be bullied or to give up their land without a fight. Sadly, too many will perish at the hands of Putin and his henchmen. Their calls for help from the free countries of the world are being heard but not acted upon with the speed or volume one might expect, given the atrocities are the worst since Hitler’s regime failed in 1945.
Thank you, Mark, Your musing was thought provoking this morning. My low income, life-long friend, has to rent a new place as the landlord sold hers. She is challenged with poor health, etc, has 5 cats. What started out as a ‘nightmare in making’ has turned completely around because of amazing ‘others’! Help from every direction, including 2 wonderful property owners. So she is no longer desperate … depressed … anxious. I think kindness from others goes a long way to lift one’s spirit, SF, Lethbridge, AB
