ROAD TRIP REDUX
Sunday May 14, 2017
Damp grass, chilled air and soggy dog prove there was more rain overnight; but less-so than yesterday when it felt like invisible low-hanging fog, moist face glaze. I took a day off yesterday – round trip to Fort Saskatchewan for Isla’s 5th birthday party, some Highway 21 sight-seeing on the way back, a side trip to Stettler, my first time there in decades. Tired, slept soundly …
Something extraordinary about spring drives in the country, everything so green, calves, ducklings and lambs hanging out with moms, farmers tilling rich soil in places where pace is slow …
Small towns and industry staging towns (like Lacombe and Blackfalds) show signs, acre upon acre of idle equipment of sad tales of an economy still on life-support, hoping recent statistical improvements in the economy manifest in real change for them.
