SUPPLY MY DEMAND
Monday, May 17, 2021
There has been much written recently about ‘supply chain disruption’ as a reality in pandemic recovery.
I’m not talking about runs on toilet paper, shortages of N95 masks, spikes in lumber prices or resale homes, but genuine ‘nothing is coming soon to solve these issues,’ such as computer chips. Or how to find enough rare-earth minerals to make all the clean energy devices …
I read the other day that a rental car in Hawaii was more than $700/day, not because the cars are better, but because of a supply shortage. One cannot imagine, during a lockdown, stocking up on inventory at car rental counters anywhere …
So this is how it’s going to be – the pendulum won’t dangle in the middle for a while yet, we’ll have wide swings in fanciful things like bitcoin binge/purge investing, we’ll fight out vaccines supplies while other people fight to not take them, crazy people will run for office, and crazier ones will try to play their trump cards behind the scenes as if nobody knows.
I wonder if the bulls and bears duking it out to win the current shortage wars if they remember this great quote:
“I am like any other man. All I do is supply a demand that was pretty popular.” – Al Capone
