IT IS NOT IN THE MAIL

Monday May 21, 2018

Marvelous paperless technologies seem to slow things down more than speeds things up. I’ve heard and seen evidence of ‘high costs of cutting cheques’ – myriad accounting bits for every entry, but really – technology doesn’t substitute for speed, effective communication or timeliness. Why is that? Seems people doing their jobs properly/promptly (or not) are key to that disconnect, because following processes/procedures is such a lazy substitute for thinking.

Getting a ‘little bit better’ or ‘little bit worse’? Hard to measure, made worse when dealing with bureaucracy riddled organizations. Double trouble if in another city, quadruple if dealing with far away head offices – compounded by how many people, departments and functions in three cities are involved – to pay a bill.

How many companies really get it?

Too few.

How about government agencies/departments?

Oh, don’t start me on that.

Hi Mark, I do enjoy your musings. It’s a wonderful passion that you have. Although I am a night hawk I am also very early to rise and trust me you are the first thing I read every morning because you are the first email that hits my inbox. Maybe I read it because I can’t believe you can do this everyday. Thanks for the morning thought, DW, Calgary, AB
