Change scares us.
Uncertainty scares us.
And difficulties scare us.
The more towering our difficulties first unfold, the superordinate degree they demoralize our actions, detain our thinking, and dispatch confidence. Still, in my experience, higher reaches of hardship have always seemed more instructive.
Of course, this is not to say I wish for difficulties.
But each time enduring another storm or overcoming another hideous time – we wipe our sweat-coated brow, whispering, “Hey, that wasn’t as difficult as I feared.”
Some days start at a high-pitch rapid tempo; some, like a sound-muted slow-motion film.
Experiences steel us for tougher things, and sometimes people fuel their bravado. But, either way, we learn that we are more resilient than we expected, that we can endure more difficulty than we ever imagined and still, the sun comes up every morning.
