TUNNEL VISION

There must be light at the end of this very long tunnel.
I’ve read much lately of gloom and doom and desperation in far-flung corners of this planet. Some days, local trends can be frightening too. Among us are children too young to understand and too many others recklessly being too foolish to care about the risks for others.
Health care availability is a right in our country – and while it is accessible at no cost for me, I can see a doctor or walk into a hospital for care by showing my card; we all know that our tax dollars pay the costs. But our incredible Medicare system only works if there is room, if hospitals have capacity.
As I watch coverage of the devastation in India, and as my newspapers who graphs of how things are at so many places in my part of the world, I realize how close we are to being in the same situation.
Someone said we are all in the same storm but not in the same sized boat. The problem right now is that too many people are in denial – we all want to be part of a solution, we must acknowledge we are all part of the problem.
If you know someone reluctant to get vaccinated, encourage them.
If you know someone who has an appointment to get vaccinated, encourage them or take them.
If you know someone behaving recklessly, remind them that overflowing hospitals hurt everyone with any medical need.
There must be light at the end of this very long tunnel.
Because tunnels are not dead-end streets.
