TRIGGER TYME
Friday, May 7, 2021
Some things are hard to believe – some are just hard to remember.
Some are impossible to forget.
Our mind captures every moment of life we’ve had.
True, we’ve slept through a lot of it …
Our brain is working 24/7, regulates our breathing and heartbeats, moves our digestion along and does our dreaming for us. Our non-conscious mind never quits.
And when we are awake, we often get too busy doing things to pay enough attention to things that matter most. Moments of high emotion, drama, pain and passion stand out, but every memory stored in our magnificent pink/grey CPU between our ears remains available for retrieval.
If you doubt that, there is a simple test – ask yourself if you remember the lyrics to a hit song in any particular year when you were actively listening to music. You think you can’t remember. Then google ‘top pop song of 19__.’
If that doesn’t trigger it, start listening, and you’ll find yourself singing along.
That’s because those lyrics, that tune, were stored – you simply needed a trigger to release the memory.
It’s like looking for an obscure document hidden within your computer.
Then a keyword search will find it.
How we feel about anything or anyone can be explained.
Some people touch our buttons, some turn up our heat, some hit our off switch. Or our p__ssed-off out of control switch. We all know these truths and have our ways of explaining them to ourselves and others.
What is it then, and why is it? We grasp the air in search of understanding as if there was a rope or handle to grasp?
