| COMMON PLACID

In that first hour awake each morning, I probably do more identifiable tasks and calorie-burning activities than any other single hour of my day.
I’m often semi-zombie-walking – mostly rote, like bed making, bathroom visiting, sit-ups, walking, papers, overnight email, tidying up, breakfast, dishwashing, and loading the car before heading off to work …
We fill every hour of the day with so many essentials too – talk, work, ideas, actions – but no single hour contains as much activity as that first hour.
Contained in all of this the notion that motion, actions, calls/texts/emails – equate to work, to valuable work, and that idle time, thumb-twiddling stare out the window time, reading time, bath time, long walk time – contains lesser values, matters not as much, doesn’t build or sustain valued outcomes. And that is wrong, notwithstanding its common placid-tude-ness.
Reader feedback:
Go get em Mark! It really is time to be moved by our intellect. I am no populist and certainly not an activist. I believe we, as Calgarians, Albertans, and Canadians deserve the best leadership. It’s incumbent upon us to bring all levels of government to task. I am doing a small part but I will do more and in other ways. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome. Not my words, of course, SB, Calgary, AB
My friend I wait with baited breath. Let the drum roll begin, DS, Calgary, AB
