The return to in-office work, hybrid or not, takes more time. In the virtual reality of the past two years, to the chagrin of every caterer and restaurant, we’ve lost the energy, the value of, and the facts of face-to-face meetings. And, more than before, we’ve come to appreciate the productivity-sucking and time-consuming reality …
Those one-hour lunches take four hours. (get ready, go, linger after, come back, do some errands or combine meetings).
One-hour breakfasts take three hours. (get ready, go, linger after, drop off dry cleaning, and head to the office).
Yes, we’ve returned to press-the-flesh handshaking encounters – fabulous to return to, but given how efficient the virtual/hybrid workplace has become, can we really spare the time for the prep time, driving to and fro, weaving in errands and ‘calls from the road’ inevitably makes the ‘meeting with someone day’ so energizing while simultaneously feeling like the hourglass is filled with quicksand?
